CHARLES SCHNEIDER Writer BIOGRAPHY CHARLES SCHNEIDER and Screaming Mad George have collaborated on one another's bizarre projects for over twenty years. They met as fresh faced fear freaks in New York City, each attending different art schools at the time. George created some of his first amazing effects for Schneider's short f film adaptation of Lord Dunsany's "The Three Infernal Jokes," featuring great fantasist-editor Lin Carter in his only known film performance. They moved to Los Angeles at about the same time a few years thereafter. Many more team-ups followed. Charles and SMG co-translated JIGOKU, a twisted Japanese Manga, for Blast Books. Schneider also wrote a draft of ANIMUS for George. Schneider has written and directed horror theatre for many years around Los Angeles. This theatre is fully rooted in the Grand Guignol tradition. Though now focusing on film, many audiences will never forget his blood-drenched epics such as THE METHODS OF COLIN SPIKES, which he is making into a feature film. "This film," he claims, "will make the viewer wish the director had been decapitated when very young." Schneider worked for many years in the music video industry, penning scenarios for Paula Abdul, Steve Winwood, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. Billy Idol, U2 etc. Madonna for such directors such as David Fincher, Dominic Sena and Michael bay. He has also directed several videos, including clips for Too Free Stooges, Kerri Anderson, Motorpsycho (Hollywood Records), The Ocean Blue, Seventeen Pygmies. He recently completed an incredible Victorian Madhouse fever-dream for Los Angeles based band THE CENTIMETERS. This video featured make-up and computer work by S.M. George and creatures designed by Zen ("From Beyond" resonator designer) Mansley. He has even worked for Disney, penning the script for Disney's Spooky Haunted Mansion SingAlong in 1998. Truly eclectic, Schneider wrote the script for Marvel Comics WOODSTOCK: THE COMIC! He even wrote "The Worry Bird" for Daniel Clowes Lloyd Llewellyn comic, a rare Clowes collaboration. He edited the Feral House book CAD: A Handbook for heels, teaching a new generation how to act like old creeps. In 2000 he wrote twelve episodes of the award winning animated series POOCHINI. Bay, etc. at Propaganda Films. Schneider has worked as an actor, favoring the weird and horrific always. He played Joey MaCobb in Ghost World, Professor Gilman in Tombstone and Arthur in Full Moon's ZARKORR! He has played many bits in Brian Yuzna's horror pictures including a barrel zombie, half of a Herbert West mutant spider creature in and a burning Satanist in "Faust." For completists, he can also be glimpsed at the start of "House" as a rabid horror fan and in Beetlejuice hanging by the neck in the underworld office. Go to http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0312823/photogallery for some lurid gore pix of an early Schneider effort, which played as a cult film at SMG's early CBGB's MAD shows. He also paints and draws. The Outre gallery in Melbourne, Australia is the chief source for his fine and hideously grotesque paintings. All in all Schneider adores the world of fear and terror. He lives in a world of darkness, breathes it and walks the grim cobbled streets of madness both day and night. |
